Dealership - Administrative
September 12, 2026 - 13:42

Cherokee Mitsubishi in Georgia is testing something that would have sounded almost impossible in automotive retail a few years ago: the dealership is closed both Saturday and Sunday.

Not occasionally. Every weekend through the end of the year.

The store says it sold 86 vehicles last month with roughly three and a half salespeople while keeping advertising expense extremely low.

Management’s argument is that fewer people, clearer accountability and better quality of life can produce more productivity—not less.

That challenges one of the oldest assumptions in the dealership business: if the store is not open when the customer wants to shop, somebody else will get the deal.

Maybe that is still true.

But if a five-day schedule helps dealers attract better employees, reduce turnover, improve productivity and create a stronger culture, could the financial benefit outweigh the sales lost on Saturday?

This may be one of the more interesting dealership experiments happening right now.
