A New Jersey store just sued for 25 million dollars claiming the whole Commerce Department ban was cover for an exit Polestar had already decided on two years ago, and if any of that holds up in court it changes how every one of us talks to our dealer councils. Prestige says they got a force majeure letter instead of the 60 day notice New Jersey franchise law actually requires, and they're also asking for five years of parts and warranty support on top of the payout. I've sat across the table from dealers who sank real money into facility upgrades on the promise of a new platform coming, only to watch the platform get shelved with a shrug from corporate. Whether Polestar actually planned this or just got a favorable regulatory outcome, the optics are brutal for the whole industry right when broker enforcement and allocation fights already have dealer trust running thin. Somebody in Sweden needs to get ahead of this before every state dealer association starts drafting the same lawsuit template.
