Tesla discontinued the Model S and the Model X to convert Fremont to Optimus robot production. Not retooled. Not reduced volume. Gone. Two vehicles that defined the brand's premium positioning for over a decade, cancelled so the factory can build humanoid robots that have not been sold to a single paying customer at volume. I do not know whether Optimus is real business or a valuation narrative dressed up as a product roadmap. What I do know is that if any traditional OEM made this decision the business press would call it desperation. When Tesla does it the coverage is about innovation pivots and manufacturing flexibility. The Model S customer who bought a $90,000 vehicle and now watches the company that made it decide that vehicle line was worth less than robot capacity has every right to be angry. The resale implications alone are significant. This is a company that moves fast and leaves its own customers holding the consequences.
